Biography
In 2008, at the age of 12, Peter Moore became the youngest ever winner of the BBC Young Musicians Competition performing the Tomasi Concerto with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales conducted by Thierry Fischer in the finals held in Cardiff.
Since then Peter has been in much demand, returning as soloist with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, appearing at the Proms in the Park in Belfast, with Michael Nyman at Cadogan Hall, taking part in the London Olympic Handover Concert and giving a much acclaimed Wigmore Hall debut.
Further afield, in 2009 Peter featured as soloist at the European trombone Festival ‘The Slide Factory’ and undertook a five week tour of Australia appearing as soloist with orchestras, brass bands and in recital. In 2010 he made his debut at the Rheingau Festival in Germany with the Polish Chamber Orchestra and recorded his first CD for Chandos Records of Edward Gregson’s Trombone Concerto with the BBC Concert Orchestra. The CD has just been released to critical acclaim, the International Record Review describing him ‘a soloist of the very front rank’. Engagements during 2011 included an invitation to return as soloist with the Polish Chamber Orchestra, both in Poland and at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany.
Over the last two years Peter has given recitals at venues and festivals throughout the UK including Bridgewater Hall, St. George’s Bristol, Conway Hall, Leeds College of Music, the Newbury and Manchester Festivals. His concerto work has included performances of the Gordon Jacob, Grondahl, Larsson, Nina Rota, Albrechtsberger and Buxton Orr Concertos with the Northern Chamber, Brighton Philharmonic and Royal Tunbridge Wells Orchestras, among others.
Future engagements include the first performance of Simon Dobson’s Trombone Concerto at the RNCM Festival of Brass in January 2012.
Born in 1996, Peter took up a scholarship to Chetham’s School of Music in 2005. He currently studies with Phil Goodwin and has taken part in masterclasses with Christian Lindberg, Hakan Hardenberger, Ian Bousfield and Joe Alessi.
Peter has received a scholarship from Yamaha Music Europe GmbH (UK) and plays a Yamaha Xeno trombone.
CD REVIEWS
‘...gloriously played with the abandon of youth by Peter Moore...The range of effects Gregson conceives on the trombone, no doubt thanks to his experience writing for brass bands, is breathtaking as played by Moore’.
Gramophone CHAN 10627 March 2011
‘..this is a masterpiece. It is brilliantly written for the soloist and orchestra and yet is a thrilling piece of music in its own right. Thankfully in Peter Moore, Gregson has a soloist of the very front rank. This work is an exciting find – as it the very young soloist – and I am sure that Gregson could not have imagined his work being better played than it is here’.
International Record Review CHAN 10627 January 2011
‘Soloist Peter Moore tackles its (Trombone Concerto) virtuosic, technical demands superbly while maintaining a ravishing tone in the lyrical passages. All trombonists should hear this.’
