Robert Finley, a retired electronics engineer, has been judged to be one of the UK's most outstanding amateur pianists. He achieved joint first place at the live final of the prestigious 2012 Amateur Piano Competition presented by Pianist Magazine, Yamaha and Chetham's School of Music.
Robert performed before an internationally renowned judging panel comprising Noriko Ogawa, Michael Roll, Murray McLachlan and Pianist Magazine editor Erica Worth.
Playing Yamaha's flagship CFX concert grand, Robert wowed the judging panel and a capacity audience at the Royal Northern College of Music. His prizes included the opportunity to play a concerto with the Manchester Camerata Chamber Orchestra; having a track placed on the Pianist Magazine cover CD; and a recital to be held at Yamaha Music London - Chappell at 1pm on Tuesday 13th August.
Robert's programme for the recital, which is to be in Chappell’s dedicated recital room, will include Chopin, Wagner and Quilter. Entrance to the performance is free of charge, but demand is expected to be high so early booking is advised.
Following the competition final, Erica Worth commented, "The standard was way beyond our wildest dreams. The finalists are truly outstanding amateurs; they play like true professionals. It's so inspiring to hear the quality of classical music being played in living rooms up and down the country!"
