On the 31st January and 1st February 2009 the annual RNCM Festival of Brass will take place in Manchester featuring Yamaha artist Rex Richardson. Performing with Fodens Band and premiering ‘Apophenia for Trumpet and Band’ by Peter Meechan, this is certain to be a highlight of the weekend.

Rex Richardson has become one of the busiest crossover trumpet virtuosos on the international scene. Having built his reputation touring around the world with the critically-acclaimed Rhythm & Brass, the late jazz legend Joe Henderson’s Quintet, and the world famous Brass Band of Battle Creek, Richardson has become much in demand as a soloist. Since 2006 he has been a featured guest soloist at the National Trumpet Competition; the International Trumpet Guild Conference; the Masters International Brass Band Championships in Cambridge, U.K.; London’s Trinity College of Music Brass Festival; the Athens Brass Festival in Greece; the Melbourne International Festival of Brass and the Brisbane Stars of Brass Festival in Australia.

During his visit to the UK, Rex will be presenting masterclasses and performing at a number of different institutions as well as the his performance at the RNCM Festival of Brass. Taking in the Royal Academy of Music, Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Chetham’s School of Music, and the Birmingham Conservatoire, Rex Richardson’s workshops present an opportunity not to be missed.

Rex Richardson is Professor of Trumpet and Jazz Trumpet at Virginia Commonwealth University and Artist-in-Residence at London’s Trinity College of Music since 2006. Rex will be performing at the Royal Northern College of Music Festival of Brass on the 31st January 2009.
