GRAND START TO SECOND SEASON AS YAMAHA INTERNATIONAL PIANO SERIES PRESENTS ANGELA HEWITT AT MALVERN THEATRES

The world-class multi-award winning Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt OBE, renowned as one of the world’s finest concert pianists debuts the second season of Yamaha’s hugely successful International Piano Series, hosted by Malvern Theatres.

On Monday 2nd November, discerning music lovers attending the Forum Theatre will have the opportunity to hear one of the most mesmerizing pianists of her generation, as Angela Hewitt performs an exciting programme of Schumann, comprising; Arabesque Op.18, Davidsbundlertanze Op.6, Waldszenen Op.82 and Sonata No.2 in G minor Op.22.

Angela Hewitt’s recordings of music by Ravel, Beethoven and especially Bach are amongst the finest available. Her current recital programmes devoted to music by Robert Schumann look set to command equal acclaim.

Following its hugely successful inaugural season that featured sellout concerts by internationally acclaimed pianists, Peter Donohoe, John Lill, Noriko Ogawa and Nikolai Demidenko, the new season will again feature four internationally acclaimed pianists between November 2009 and March 2010

Angela Hewitt is a phenomenal artist who has established herself at the highest level over the last few years not least through her superb, award-winning recordings for Hyperion, her eleven-year project to record all the major keyboard works of Bach that was described as “one of the record glories of our age” (The Sunday Times) and won her a huge following. She has also been hailed as “the pre-eminent Bach pianist of our time” (The Guardian).

Angela who was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2006 has lived in London since 1985. She was named Gramophone Artist of the Year in 2006 and awarded the first ever BBC Radio 3 Listener’s Award (Royal Philharmonic Society Awards) in 2003. She was also made both an Officer of the Order of Canada and fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2000.

Angela Hewitt has performed throughout North America and Europe as well as in Japan, Australia, Singapore, New Zealand, Israel, China, Mexico, Turkey and the former Soviet Union. Highlights of recent seasons include her debuts in Carnegie Hall, the Concertgebouw and with the Cleveland Orchestra, as well as a North American tour with the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Her recitals have taken her to the festivals of Edinburgh, Osaka, Prague, Hong Kong, Schleswig-Holstein, Brescia/Bergamo, and Oslo to name but a few. Her frequent Wigmore Hall and Royal Festival Hall recitals in London sell out months in advance.

Yamaha pianos continue as the instruments of choice at an increasing number of internationally renowned venues, and are selected by acclaimed artists at the highest level of classical repertoire.

The series continues with Stephen Hough on 28th November and into 2010 with Freddy Kempf on 17th February, concluding with John Lill on 18th March.
