The End Of The Road…
“Home Sweet Home!!! I am writing this from London one day after the tour finished – finally back to my own bed and my own flat - what a great feeling to be home at last, it’s the small things you really miss you know!
Had a really great last week on the road – after our gigs in Madrid and Valencia we drove on through the night to Portugal for our last gigs in Portu and Lisbon. This was my first time in Portugal and I had a great time checking out the sights – the people were so welcoming and it is definitely a place I want to come back to and explore a little bit more! One thing I did manage to squeeze in on our day off was a trip to the local aquarium – the first thing we saw walking into the building was a colossal tank full of sharks, stingrays and a huge array of the strangest and most exotic looking fish I’ve ever seen in my life, it was amazing! Still not a fan of jellyfish though…..!
It was the last gig of the tour in Lisbon, so we all tried to think of different pranks to pull to celebrate the occasion – in the end it was Steve, the drummer, who for the final number of the show took of his t-shirt to expose a bright pink bikini, much to the delight of the audience! It was truly a ghastly sight, but it had the band and the crew in stitches, and Anastacia somehow managed to get through the encore without breaking into fits of laughter!
It’s strange being back and thinking about the last 3 months that seem to have gone by so fast yet so much has happened… from the beginning of rehearsals back in May when I first met the band and we played our first notes together through 30-odd shows and 15 countries later (not to mention thousands of miles spent on a tour bus!), from the first nerve-filled show in rainy Russia to beautiful outdoor gigs in sunny Sicily; the whole experience has been absolutely fantastic.
It certainly takes a second to get used to being back at home though - no more day-sheets telling me exactly what I should be doing and where I should be every minute of every day, no more yummy catering and no more 5-star hotel rooms…I barely remembered how to change the bed sheets when I got home! I am going to miss the band and their antics – even though I occasionally felt like I was living in the Big Brother House, we have all gotten close and they were a really great bunch of people to be away with. At the same time, I am so excited to be back with my family and loved ones and I am looking forward to getting stuck into all the other projects that have been sitting on the shelf for the last few months – an EP I have produced for a singer named Jo Harrop that is just about ready to be mixed, a new dance music project I’m involved in that needs further production and top lines and also some advert/library music that needs my urgent attention! So it’s straight back into the studio bright and early tomorrow - no rest for the wicked eh?!
So this is finally it! Time to say goodbye and hopefully see you next time! I have had a brilliant time and have seen some really fantastic places all over the globe and played in some seriously stunning venues. I can safely say I’m not “Outta Love” with this touring life!! (man, I definitely need some sleep!!!)
Thank you all for reading my blog - I hope it’s been a bit of an insight into what’s involved with a job like this. Of course it’s all only from my humble perspective, but I feel super lucky and really blessed to have the opportunity to do what I do, and also for getting the chance to tell you all about it. Thanks loads to Felicity, Joe and all at Yamaha past and present for continuing to support me throughout the years – couldn’t be doing this without you guys so thanks a million!!
That’s all folks!”
