The critically acclaimed Yamaha International Piano series continues at Malvern Theatres on Friday 1st April 2011 with a recital by one of the world's greatest concert artists, Stephen Hough, who performs an inspired programme of works by Beethoven, Janacek and Liszt.
The concert concludes the third season in a hugely successful series also featuring Benjamin Grosvenor, Artur Pizarro and Jean-Efflam Bavouzet. Previous seasons have included sellout concerts by internationally acclaimed pianists, Peter Donohoe, John Lill, Noriko Ogawa, Nikolai Demidenko, Angela Hewitt and Freddy Kempf.
Stephen Hough is widely regarded as one of the most important and distinctive pianists of his generation. In recognition of his achievements, he was awarded a prestigious MacArthur Fellowship in 2001, joining prominent scientists, writers and others who have made unique contributions to contemporary life, only last month Stephen Hough was nominated by The Economist and Intelligent Life magazines as one of 20 living polymaths, alongside Umberto Eco, Noam Chomsky and Michael Ignatieff. Over the summer of 2009 he played all of the works for piano and orchestra of Tchaikovsky over four BBC Proms and in 2010 returned to the Boston, Chicago, San Francisco and Toronto symphonies as well as becoming the first British instrumentalist to give a solo recital on the main stage of Carnegie Hall in nearly 20 years.
Stephen Hough will perform using Yamaha’s exciting new CFX concert grand piano that recently made an impressive New York debut at the United Nations, at a concert to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the ending of World War II and the establishment of the United Nations. Twenty years in the making, the CFX is an entirely new instrument in terms of its piano action and construction. It has received acclaim from artists the world over for its tonal excellence and power.
