LITTLE BOOTS

What do Adele, Duffy, Glasvegas and The Ting Tings have in common? – Answer, they were all named among Radio One’s ‘Sound of 2008’ chart predictions, with Adele scooping the No.1 vote. Now BBC Radio One unleashes its ‘Sound of 2009’ list that highlights fifteen of the best rising music stars chosen by 130 of the UK’s leading music critics and broadcasters. Among those hoping to be named winner in January and armed with the secret and powerful musical weapon that is Yamaha’s Tenori-On is Blackpool’s ‘Little Boots’. ‘Little Boots’ is the stage name of Victoria Hesketh who left the UK synth-rock girl group Dead Disco to pursue a solo pop path and has been guided by Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard. Little Boots was recently featured performing her current single, 'Meddle' with acoustic piano, stylophone and Yamaha’s revolutionary new Tenori-On musical interface on the BBC's Later With Jools Holland.

Likened to a British Kylie or a harder, shinier St Etienne, she plays catchy, credible futuristic pop. Although raised as an accomplished pianist, Little Boots now prefers to play the Tenori-On - a unique new electronic musical interface which has almost become her trademark instrument.

Recently named by CNet’s Donald Bell among his ‘Top Ten Favourite Things of 2008’ alongside Apple’s mass market iPhone, a five year partnership with inventor and media artist Toshio Iwai led to the phenomenon that is Tenori-On. Tenori-On is a completely new concept in portable music-making and performance art and is undoubtedly one of the most forward thinking instruments of our lifetime putting all of the necessary tools for music creation right in the palm of your hand.

The Tenori-On is a unique 16 x 16 LED button matrix performance controller with a stunning visual display. By operating and interacting with the LED buttons and the light they produce you gain access to the Tenori-On's numerous performance capabilities that merge cutting edge digital music performance technology with the ability to create a stunning visual experience.

Along with ‘Little Boots’ hotly anticipated debut album in 2009, recent Tenori-On artist releases and performances that have turned heads and inspired the creative world include Norman Fairbanks’ latest sonic creation entitled 'LA Machine' and the Peterloo Massacre live at Manchester’s Royal Northern College of Music, that saw the integration of the Tenori-On with Cubase.
