About the Silent Brasses

This mute device lowers the volume of a brass instrument and allows you to practise the instrument anywhere, but the device does much more than muffle sound. It is filled with functions that can help your progress. For example, you can listen to your performance through headphones while muffling sound.

Problem solved for all brass players!

The sound of a single brass instrument travels across a concert hall from the stage to the rearmost seats. The extended sound that carries far is part of the great charm of brass instruments, but a lack of space where players can practise without worrying about the sound volume has been a problem common to every brass player. To solve this problem, the Silent Brass system was developed under the concept: 'Play anytime, anywhere to your heart's content'. The main features of the system include minimal change in pitch with the mute attached and smooth gliding from low notes to high notes.

This Silent Brass system muffles sound by inserting the Pickup Mute in the bell. The microphone built into the Pickup Mute picks up the sound, reverberation is added, and you can hear the output through the headphones.

Works with various instruments from different manufactures

The Silent Brass system covers almost all the brass instruments used in an orchestra and a wind-instrument band, including trumpet, trombone, French horn, euphonium, and tuba. Although the size of the tuba bell varies by manufacturer, the Pickup Mute fits various instruments from different manufactures by inserting the mute a little farther from the rim into the bell, instead of setting the mute to the bell's body like regular mutes.

Normally a mute and the Personal Studio are sold as a set, but a separately available Personal Studio, product 'ST5', has a number of more advanced practice aid functions. The ST5 has an auto tuner function, which will automatically find the note being played and tell you how flat or sharp it is, and a metronome function. The ST5's phrase trainer allows you to play back short phrases which have been recorded. Furthermore, the aux-key function transposes sound received from external source, such as a CD player, to the keys of your instrument.

The Silent Brass system, which allows productive practice sessions for any purpose, will be a powerful ally for all brass instrument players, from beginners to professional stage musicians.
