Yamaha Pianos in conversation with Steven Osborne

Steven Osborne, interviewed at Malvern Theatres where he was performing on CFX as part of the acclaimed Yamaha International Piano Series.

Steven talks about how his love for the piano started at a very early age, discusses the bravery of Beethoven, the emotion of Ravel, the art of recording, and the spiritual power of music.

Steven is one of Britain’s foremost musicians and is renowned for his approach to a wide variety of repertoire, from the mainstream classical works of Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms to the rarefied worlds of Messiaen, Tippett and Britten. He has won numerous awards and prizes including a Gramophone Award for his recording of Britten’s works for piano and orchestra, and first prize at both the Naumburg International Competition (New York) and the Clara Haskil Competition.

Concerto performances take Steven Osborne to orchestras all over the world. In the UK he works regularly with the major orchestras, especially with the Philharmonia, City of Birmingham Symphony and BBC Philharmonic Orchestras. His concerts are frequently broadcast by the BBC and he performs every year at the Wigmore Hall. He has made eight appearances at the Proms.

In 2013 he won the Gramophone Instrumental award for his Mussorgsky/Prokofiev disc and the Royal Society Instrumental award.
