Whether recording in a studio or mixing at a live concert – controlling the dynamics of various audio signals is one of the most important and challenging tasks for an audio engineer. The challenge is to adjust the main parameters Threshold, Ratio, Attack and Release individually to the suit the dynamic characteristics of each signal. Not an easy task, especially when things are getting hectic and there’s no time to adjust all the tiny controls meticulously.
The intelligent 1-Knob-Compressor is part of the Yamaha MG mixer series and helps you to compress your signals with only one control! The basic principle is easily explained: The more you turn the COMP-control to the right, the stronger the compression will get. The 1-Knob-Compressor automatically adjusts the threshold (the level above which the compressor reduces the signal), the ratio (the amount of gain reduction between input and output) and the output gain (to “make-up” for the attenuation of the signal).
Because of the intelligent processing you can use the 1-Knob-Compressor for limiting peak levels in percussive sounds (e.g. Kick or Snare) as well as for a smooth thickening of signal sources like vocals or guitar - to get more presence in the mix.
