Jazz Ace Hiromi astounds and inspires at Yamaha Music London

Hiromi, one of the world's most popular, innovative and explosive pianists performed an intimate show at Yamaha Music London recently following hot on the heels of her acclaimed sell-out performance at the BBC Proms.

A long - standing Yamaha artist, she delivered a captivating musical tour-de-force for the VIP audience of just 60, constantly flipping between styles and genres taking in the blues, original compositions, latin and jazz, the evening was one of 'surprise and delight' throughout for the lucky guests.

In-between music Hiromi provided a thoughtful and captivating insight into her music, career and inspirations with Jazz FM broadcaster Ruth Fisher. Hiromi described how she hails from the hometown of Yamaha, Hamamatsu in Japan and thus, from an early age, Yamaha pianos formed part of the fabric of her life and seeing artisans regularly building the instruments began a special bond with the piano. This bond allowing her to enjoy such a rare and insightful partnership with the instrument, so evident in the evening’s show.

The performance also saw the first major debut of Yamaha's new S3X handcrafted grand piano of which Hiromi said "this was my very first time playing this piano today, we spent a few hours earlier getting to know each other. I am really surprised at the expression of the instrument considering its size. Compared to the 9 foot pianos I normally play the expression, brilliance and warmth is amazing, I highly approve!"

Among the audience was UK jazz legend, bandleader and composer Julian Joseph who told us "Hiromi held Yamaha Music London spellbound as she unleashed a tirade of invention, power and brilliance on the new Yamaha, a compact and beautiful sounding piano totally belying its size. Her performance left a capacity room overwhelmingly satisfied, great room, wonderful piano and consummate artist".
