Introduction

Yamaha Drums is delighted to invite entries for #FUTUREBEAT ’17 that offers a mouth-watering array of prizes, unique performance opportunities, and maximum exposure for drummers aged 18 years and under.

Regional Finals in London, Birmingham, Nottingham, Glasgow and Cardiff will see 50 talented and aspiring drummers battle it out for 5 places at the Finals at Yamaha Headquarters in Milton Keynes. With prizes including a Yamaha Drum Kit awarded to the #FUTUREBEAT ‘17 winner, a Yamaha Snare Drum for Regional Winners and professional development from Artist Mentoring Sessions for the Grand Finalists, this is a do-not-miss-opportunity for anyone under the age of 18 who plays drums.

Entry Process

To apply: Simply send in an email with a link to a short video clip of your drumming performance with Full Name, Date of Birth, Address and Contact Number to your local location:

Make sure you demonstrate your ability and style. The video can be made using acoustic or electronic drums. Judges will be looking for groove, timing, technique, versatility and expression. If you record something specific for the competition it can be filmed as simply as on your smart phone. Judging will be made on your performance not the production of the video.

From the video submissions, 50 young drummers will be selected to perform live on a Yamaha Drum Kit at 5 Regional Finals that will each showcase 10 drummers. These drummers will play for up to a maximum of 10 minutes duration in front of audiences comprising family, friends and members of the general public.

Grand Finals

For the Grand Final at Yamaha Headquarters in Milton Keynes, all 5 Finalists will each receive mentoring with some of the country’s leading professional drummers and have the chance to perform with a professional band, in front of an eminent judging panel who will decide the overall #FUTUREBEAT ’17 winner.

Judging

There are 3 Judging stages, a selection of Judges including Yamaha Staff, The Drum Shop, Yamaha Artists and Leading Industry Figures will all be invited throughout the process. Each of the judges will be marking scores for a variety of factors including groove, timing, technique, versatility and expression.

Prizes

• The Future Beat finalist will win a Yamaha 5 piece Yamaha Drum Set and hardware worth over £2000

• Finalist will be invited to Yamaha Music Europe GmbH (UK) to have Master class sessions with leading Yamaha Drum Artists.

• The Regional Winners will receive a Recording Custom Snare Drum worth over £400

  1. Scope of these Terms and Conditions
    1. These Terms and Conditions apply to The #FUTUREBEAT Competition (“Competition”) as described below.
    2. This competition is held by Yamaha Music Europe GmbH (UK), Sherbourne Drive, Tilbrook, Milton Keynes, MK7 8BL, United Kingdom (“Yamaha”).
    3. By submitting their entry to participate in this competition, entrants agree that they have read, understood and accepted these Terms and Conditions.
  2. Competition – mechanism and prizes
    The Competition period is 12th June 2017 until 18th November 2017
    1. Yamaha calls anyone residing in the United Kingdom under the age of 18 years to enter this competition.
      • Participants must be born on or after 1st September 1999 to be valid as 18 years old or younger.
      • Participants must be able to provide the consent of a parent or guardian
      • Yamaha employees and their family members, the agencies or anyone professionally connected with this Competition are not eligible for this competition.
    2. Participation mechanism and prizes
      • Phase 1 – Entry Process:
        In order to participate, Entrants are asked to provide a link to an application video (“entry”) from [12th June 2017 until outlined closing date. Entrants must also enter their name, date of birth, address and contact number in full. Entries must be made in accordance with the instructions on the submission page on the website [add link]. Submissions will not be accepted by e-mail, post or other means not specified on the aforementioned website. Yamaha cannot be held responsible for any entries not received due to technical problems.
        The closing date for entries is
        Manchester – 1st October, 11:59 pm Western European Time (UTC).
        Cardiff – 20th August, 11:59 pm Western European Time (UTC).
        Birmingham – 3rd September, 11:59 pm Western European Time (UTC).
        Glasgow – 8th October, 11:59 pm Western European Time (UTC).
        London – 15th October, 11:59 pm Western European Time (UTC).
        The five participating Yamaha Dealers will each select ten (10) Regional Finalists.
      • Phase 2 – Live Regional Finals:
        The Regional Finals will consist of a ten (10) minute performance of each Regional Finalist. The performance will include a song and percussion patterns given to the Regional Finalists in advance and will be held at the Dealer’s premises on a Yamaha Drum kit provided. Regional finals will take place through August – October 2017.
        The performance of the Regional Finalists will be evaluated by a jury consisting of three (3) judges including a member of the Dealer’s store and at least one Yamaha Artist. One Finalist will be selected for the Grand Final and announced on each Live Regional Final evening. Regional Winners will receive a Yamaha Snare Drum.
      • Phase 3 – Grand Final
        The Grand Final will be held at Yamaha’s premises on Saturday 18th November 2017. Each Finalist will receive mentoring sessions with a Yamaha Artist and will be asked to perform for 20 minutes and play along with a professional band. The performance will be judged by a jury whose members include industry figures. The #FUTUREBEAT Winner will be announced on that day and will receive a Yamaha Drum Kit.
  3. Competition requirement
    1. Yamaha shall not be responsible for monitoring whether the entrants’ uploaded content, however Yamaha reserves the right to reject any content that Yamaha may consider to be illegal.
    2. Yamaha reserves the right, with or without cause, to exclude entrants and withhold prizes for violating any of these Terms and Conditions. Yamaha may do so retroactively and recall the prize.
    3. By entering the competition, all entrants represent and warrant that their entry does not contain any so called samples and/or other copyright material owned by a third party, any personal rights, insults, copyright violations, trademark infringements
    4. The entrant shall indemnify Yamaha on first demand from any claims by third parties due to the entrant’s contribution to illegal content.
  4. Execution
    1. No cash or alternative prizes available. Prizes are not for resale or transferable.
    2. The Regional Finalists, Finalists and the Winner will be announced on the official Yamaha Site after each Phase. All reasonable endeavors will be made to contact these Entrants during this time to announce the dates of the following Phases.
  5. Disclaimer
    Yamaha shall not be liable for any failure to meet this Terms and Conditions where such failure is cause by any supervening circumstances amounting to force majeure. Such circumstances shall include, but shall not be limited to, technical problems, change of terms and conditions or decisions by platforms such as Facebook, severe weather conditions, fire, flood, war, earthquake, riots, industrial dispute, terrorism, acts of god, or events that, without fault of either party, render performance impossible or incapable of satisfactory execution.
  6. Liability
    Notwithstanding mandatory law, Yamaha’s liability for compensation of damages shall be excluded or limited as defined in this number 6:
    1. Yamaha’s liability shall be unlimited regarding damage from deliberate or grossly negligent violation of duty by Yamaha or one of its legal representatives.
    2. Yamaha shall further be liable where the damage results from negligent violation of essential contractual duties. Essential contractual duties are all of those obligations, the fulfilment of which is a prerequisite for enabling the proper fulfilment of the contract in the first place and upon their compliance the contractual partner may normally trust.
      In this case Yamaha’s liability is, however, limited with regards to the amount, in accordance with the contractually typical foreseeable damage at the time of the conclusion of the contract.
    3. Yamaha’s liability shall not be excluded if the damage occurs from injury to life, body, or health which rests on a deliberate or negligent violation of duty by Yamaha or by one of its legal representatives or where Yamaha is subject to a mandatory legal liability, in particular liability in accordance with product liability law.
    4. As far as Yamaha’s liability is excluded or limited according to the above provisions, this also applies to the personal liability of Yamaha’s legal representatives, employees, staff, and proxies.
  7. Privacy
    Uses of personal data received by Yamaha in the course of the competition are subject to applicable laws and the privacy policy found on http://europe.yamaha.com/en/privacy_policy/ .
    1. The following information will be collected by Yamaha for the purpose of administration and execution of the competition:
      • name
      • date of birth
      • address
      • phone number
    2. Entrants consent to being contacted by Yamaha via e-mail or telephone for the purpose of administrating the Competition and their names being published on Facebook and/or Yamaha websites.
    3. The collected data will be used only for the execution of this competition and deleted thereafter.
  8. Other
    1. If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is held to be invalid or unenforceable, such provision shall be struck out and the remaining provisions shall be enforced.
    2. These terms and conditions and any disputes or claims arising out of or in connection with them shall be governed by the laws of England and participants agree that the courts of England shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
