Pianist 2023 Amateur Piano Competition - Your chance to win a Yamaha piano!
The Pianist 2023 Amateur Piano Competition is open! In association with Yamaha Music Europe, Pianist are hosting an online competition and are inviting amateur pianists aged 25 and over to submit their recordings, for a chance to win a Yamaha piano worth up to £10,000.
Specifically open to amateur players who adore playing piano but have not had the opportunity or means to move up to professional level, Pianist are giving you the platform to be seen and heard – and maybe even kickstart your dream career.
Pianist editor, Erica Worth, who studied piano at the Manhattan School of Music with Constance Keene and Nina Svetlanova, explains the history of the competition:
‘We presented two adult amateur competitions with Yamaha in the past – in 2005 and 2007 – and both were hugely successful’ Erica says, ‘And we found such an amount of hidden talent. Everything took place ‘in person’, though, with the finals held in London.’
‘Now, fast forward almost 20 years, and what with the internet being the biggest influencer and conduit for all things social, we felt that this was the way to go in order to successfully hunt down talent from all walks of life and show it to the world.’
Applicants are required to submit video recordings up to 15 minutes in total of their playing, as well as an application form, available via the link below. There are two categories, Classical and Modern, with one winner selected from each, and 2nd and 3rd places will also be awarded.

‘You don’t need to use fancy equipment – prop up your phone and press record! Feel free to use the music – iPad, sheet music, whatever.’ She explains how to set yourself up, ‘We’d like a whole shot of you at the piano, sideways on. We want to see you as well as hear you!’
‘Make sure that each piece is recorded in its entirety. That is, play from start to finish - don’t worry about any mistakes along the way – you’re only human!’ Erica reassures, ‘Relax before you begin and also at the end’.
