Freya Ridings surprises and delights with #Platform88 performance
The critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Freya Ridings recently chose the #Platform88 Yamaha piano at Tottenham Court Road tube station to perform a surprise gig to hundreds of astounded commuters.
The London based artist burst onto the international music scene with her debut single ‘Blackout’ in 2017 and spent much of that year touring with Tears for Fears, Lewis Capaldi and Tash Sultana.
Freya is known for her exceptional ability to transfix audiences with her moving lyrics and a rare ability to deliver incredibly moving and connecting performances often showing real angst and emotion.
Her 'Live at St Pancras Old Church' album, released on Good Soldier Records late last year elevated her into the wider public consciousness and saw her rising to international stardom.
Freya, joined by the London International Gospel Choir for the impromptu show performed songs which included her hit single ‘Lost Without You’ to a huge crowd of delighted tube travelling fans.
#Platform88 is a partnership between Yamaha Music UK and Transport for London which sees pianos placed in some of the busiest and most iconic stations on the underground network, Kings Cross, Tottenham Court Road and Canary Wharf. Each of the pianos will ‘Travel’ around the Tube network during the 2 year duration of the partnership reaching millions of new audiences in fun, entraining and surprising ways.
The two organisations devised the initiative to surprise, engage and inspire busy travellers to engage with pianos and live music. Each of the three pianos were debuted with performances by Yamaha artists Jamie Cullum, Jools Holland and Tokio Myers.
